this is not just another rating community. do not apply if you just want to add another cool-looking community to your info page. we expect you to participate.
welcome to the smart_punx community. join us, if you can make the cut.
i, [juliesgotagun], would like to make a statement. assorted and sundry people and communities have been ripping on us for being a rating community. yes, if you feel you must call us a "type" of community, i guess this is a rating community. HOWEVER. this does not mean it's just a place to post pics of your new hair/makeup/boyfriend/clothes/etc. there are very few posts of that nature present. if you want a community that you can do that in, go ahead and join a different one. there's plenty to choose from. i suppose we are a "rating" community due to the fact that we require all members to fill out an application to join. the purpose of the application is to choose members who will be able to give new and unique points of view to the community, and to keep it from being flooded with cookie-cutter punk kids who masquerade stock "punk" opinions as their own views and ideals. thank you.
YOUR MOD[S] everyone. that's right. that's another nifty thing about this community. juliesgotagun, the original moderator/founder, felt like a bit of a dictator. she, as a person holding many anarcho-syndicalist ideals, felt that this system of government was unacceptable. so now, once you have joined, and have been a member for a good month, made 4 posts, or shown somehow that you're a responsible person who is worthy of moderation privileges, they will be granted to you. this is a communal community. there's a few guidelines that apply: 1. when you want to make a change to the info, the layout, etc., you MUST hold a vote. the vote will last for 48 hours. if the motion is approved by the majority of voters, you may proceed. 2. DO NOT make any changes, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, without holding a vote. 3. you may not, at ANY time, revoke anyone else's privileges. this community will not function if there is no element of trust amongst our members.
when you post your application to join, you will receive a "yes" or "no" vote depending on the following 1. how thoroughly you filled out the application. 2. your potential to contribute to the community. 3. uniqueness in opinions, likes/dislikes, etc. 4. your ability to firmly state and back up your opinions. 5. all-around well-roundedness.
YOU WILL NOT BE JUDGED ON 1. how similar you are to everyone else in the community. 2. appearance 3. music taste
1. once in, actually participate. post pictures, discuss concerts, philosophy, politics, anything. 2. don't fuck around with already accepted members or comment in accepted members postings if you haven't been accepted yet. 3. when accepting or rejecting applicants, give some reasons why. 4. when accepted, YOU MUST be active or you will be given the boot. [that is, you'll be BANNED.] 5. when you join, post your application ASAP. 6. don't pick petty arguments, please. although controversy may come up, try to keep it mature, kids. 7. treat all members and applicants with respect, violating this can result in being banned. 8. when filling out the application, take your time and actually think about the questions. it gives us more grounds to accept or reject you upon. 9. when applying, write "street geek" in subject line. just so we know you've read the rules. 10. IMPORTANT-you may not reply to any post but your own nor post any new entries if you HAVE NOT BEEN STAMPED. stamped meaning, you got the accepted piccy below. those who do not follow this rule will be banned. 111. once you have joined, YOU HAVE 48 HOURS TO POST YOUR APPLICATION OR YOU WILL BE BANNED. 12. if you have been rejected, LEAVE THE COMMUNITY! or you'll be banned. 13. please, please, PLEASE use the lj cut tag.
lj-cut tutorial! it's simple. 1. copy this:<*lj-cut text="type whatever you want here"*> 2. paste it right before your application when posting. 3. type a title between the apostrophes. 4. delete the asterisks. [* *] 13. no personal attacks, this includes insults, and name calling. 14. limit applicant questions to a maximum of three. we want to be fair to the new applicants. 15. do not abuse your moderation powers.
once you have been accepted, promote around Livejournal.com with the following banners.
